4 week beginner’s program

Try Historical European Martial Arts (HEMA) with our 4-week beginner course at Bighorn Historical Combat! It’s fun, beginner-friendly, safe, and a great way to transition into our regular training sessions.

What to Expect

  • Weekly Training: Join a 2-hour session each week covering essential HEMA fundamentals.

  • What You’ll Learn: Alongside other beginners, you will learn the basics of longsword, sabre, spear, and sword & buckler, including techniques, movements, and historical context. By the end, you’ll be ready to transition smoothly into regular training.

  • Bonus Insight: See real historical sources and learn how these techniques were applied in combat.

Program Details

  • Gear Included: The course fee includes a functional fencing mask for you keep, access to our safe loaner foam swords, and access to our club Discord for announcements & information.

  • Limited Spots: To ensure quality participation, coaching and individual attention, each program is capped at 6 participants.

  • Duration & Cost: Four 2-hour training sessions on Sunday afternoon, 3:00-5:00, cost for this August intake is $225 with a $100 deposit.

  • Flexible Scheduling: Programs run on months when our coaches are available for all sessions. Email us to find out the next start date!

Age Requirements

  • Age Requirement: Open to anyone 16 or older. Participants under 18 must have a legal guardian present on the first day to sign a liability waiver.

  • Guardian Attendance: Legal guardians are welcome to stay during classes but are not required to.
